Iguanas are my Spirit Animal
The Green Iguana is a work of Art.
Look at their patterns, shapes, and just the mosaics of it all. I’m in awe. They can even change colors on demand? What on Earth?
Both of these Iguanas were photographed in South Florida. However, the Green one is from South Beach, Miami and the orange camouflaged one is from Deerfield Beach, Florida. In both instances, I was just minding my business enjoying nature when they appeared in the brush next to me. Both stuck around long enough to give me the opportunity to capture their presence. Nevertheless, truly fascinated by the Artwork of their skin, it really is something other worldly and a true work of Art!
What even are Iguanas?
A type of lizard with several different species, with the Green Iguana being the most well-known.
There are two types of iguanas found in Florida: the green iguana and the black spiny-tailed iguana. The green iguana is an invasive species in Florida and are found in the southern part of the state, particularly in urban areas where they’re attracted to landscaping and gardens. In the wild, iguanas are primarily herbivores and eat a diet of leaves, flowers, and fruit.
Iguanas are known for their distinctive appearance, with a long tail, scaly skin, and spikes along their back. Also for their bright colors, which can range from green to brown to orange.
One interesting fact about iguanas is that they are capable of changing color. While their color change is not as dramatic as other reptiles, iguanas can become darker or lighter depending on their mood, temperature, and level of stress.
Another interesting fact is they freeze or “slow down” under 50 degrees Fahrenheit. Which, I totally get that and is why I love escaping from the North East to sunny and warm Florida or California during the Winter months.
In conclusion, Iguanas are fascinating.
